Obituary of Lucy A Bramanti

Lucy A. (Citrano) Bramanti, 91, a fiercely independent woman known for her warmth, strength, and dedication to family, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, November 10. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, businesswoman, and friend, who inspired those around her with her tenacity and compassion.

Born and raised in an Italian family in Boston’s North End, Lucy was the daughter of the late Gaetano and Amelia (Santa DiCola) Citrano, she carried the values of love, loyalty, and resilience throughout her life. Her family remained the center of her world. She never missed one of her children’s youth or high school sports games, cheering from the stands with unwavering pride. As her grandchildren grew, she continued to be a devoted supporter, encouraging their dreams and aspirations with enthusiasm and cheering them on as they reached their goals.

Lucy was an accomplished court reporter and the founder of Bramanti Court Reporting, a business that has become a lasting family legacy, still proudly operated by her loved ones. She graduated from the Stenotype Institute of Boston, and in the 1970s, her business began to take off as she established herself in the industry. A member of the Massachusetts Court Reporter Association, she took pride in her profession and balanced her role as a trailblazer with the deep connections she fostered in her personal life.

A lifelong learner, Lucy returned to college once her children were grown, earning her associate degree from Mass Bay Community College at age 42—a testament to her perseverance and commitment to personal growth.

Lucy’s faith was foundational to her, and she was a dedicated parishioner of St. Margaret’s Church, where she sang in the choir, served as a Eucharistic Minister and taught CCD. Her sons were altar servers in their youth, and her connection to her church community brought her joy and strength. Her generous spirit extended to charitable causes, including Alzheimer research and breast cancer research, for which she participated in the remarkable Susan G. Komen 60-mile walk to end breast cancer.

She loved to travel, often with her late husband, Joseph, exploring places like Korea, China, and the Smoky Mountains. Together, they embarked on cruises to tropical destinations and attended the Indianapolis 500, savoring every adventure. Later, she joined the Burlington Senior Center for meaningful trips to Israel and Italy, cherishing each experience.

Lucy’s passion for life was evident in her daily walks, her love for the Boston Red Sox, and her fondness for a good Manhattan to unwind. She also had a penchant for shopping and was meal-prepping long before it became a trend. Ever forward-thinking, she owned one of the very first cell phones, embodying her trailblazing spirit.

Lucy was predeceased by her loving husband, Joseph F. Bramanti who passed away in 2008, and her siblings, Anna Calabro, Josephine Arria, Alphonse Citrano, Albert Citrano, Alfred Citrano and John Citrano and a son in law, Patrick Spencer.

She is survived by her loving children Denise Bramanti-Spencer of Billerica, Peter Bramanti & his wife Peggy of Salem NH, Joseph “Jay” F. Bramanti, Jr & his wife Jeanne of N. Andover, Robert Bramanti & his wife Linda of Andover, and Christopher Bramanti & his wife Gretchen of Chelmsford, 15 grandchildren, Theresa, Anthony and Phillip Spencer, Adam, Joey, Jessica, Joseph, Gia, Megan, Emily, Luke, Owen, William, Noah and Sam Bramanti, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her visiting hours on Sunday, November 17, 2024 from 3pm to 6pm at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St. Burlington. Her funeral will begin on Monday, November 18, from the funeral home at 9am with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10am at St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St. Burlington, burial will follow in Pine Haven Cemetery.
