Obituary of William Spiros Farfaras

William Spiros Farfaras, Co-Owner and President of Farfaras & Son Plumbing and Heating Company in Billerica passed away after a extended illness at his home surrounded by his family on Tuesday night, October 8, 2024.  He was 76 years old.  Bill was born in Boston, the son of Antonio and Mary Farfaras.  Bill grew up in Lexington and was a member of the Lexington High School graduating Class of 1966.  He met his future wife, Betty Vidito, in his first year of college and she was a junior at Concord Carlisle High School.  He knew she was “The One” almost immediately.  He gave a hope chest as a graduation present, an engagement ring a year later, and were married in 1969.  They lived in Methuen for a year while Bill, with the help of his father and brother, built their forever home in Woburn.  Bill and his brother, had the great opportunity to learn from and work alongside their father in his plumbing business.  Bill became a Master Plumber, Journeyman Plumber, Master Pipefitter, Construction Supervisor, Oil Burner Technician, Home Improvement Contractor, Sprinkler Contractor, and real estate developer.  The brothers took over the business in 1974 and took it from a little father and sons business to at their peak a company of about 100 employees.  They did both commercial and residential projects and worked with real estate developers like Murray Hills, RJ Kelly, Guiterrez Company, and numerous other large and smaller firms.  They did both new construction and renovations.  They did work all over the North Shore and all the Jiffy Lubes construction projects around New England.  He would never ask an employee to do something he wouldn’t do himself and wouldn’t hesitate to jump in a ditch to lend a helping hand.  The business was his life and his children would tease him that they never saw his clothes perfectly clean.  Bill was old school and believed that success only can come from hard work and being “All In”.   Bill was also Co-Owner and President of Farfaras Brothers Realty where they developed and managed their own properties.  Bill also found time to work part time as a plumbing inspector for the towns of Woburn, Burlington, and Reading.

Bill was a real car enthusiast.  He loved antiques, muscle cars, luxury, and anything else with four wheels.  Over the years his garage seemed to have a revolving door.  He had cars like a 1966 Mustang convertible, Ford McLaren Mustang. Thunderbird convertible, Jaguars, Cadillacs, Lincolns, and at least three Corvettes.  He was always washing, polishing, and cleaning them to the point you could eat of the matts.   He loved taking road trips and hitting destinations like Route 66, Graceland, and the Grand Old Opry.   He traveled all over the United States to see his daughter, Toni, play professional women’s football for the Mass Mutiny.  He loved testing his luck at the Casinos.  He frequented Mohegan Sun, Foxwoods, Twin River, Plain Ridge, Encore, and numerous others that he happened to come by on his road trips.  He was also a 50-year member of the Masons, lifelong member of AmVets, and longtime member of the Scottish Rite.

Bill worked so hard, so he could provide for his family.  There were numerous family vacations to Disney World.  His home in Moultonborough, New Hampshire was the family vacation spot since 1987.  There were snowmobiles for the winter months, swimming in the lake and campfires during the summer months, and endless memories filled with comical stories and wonderful remembrances.  He loved 4th of July and Memorial Day parades, loops around the lake, car shows, family dinners, barbeques, and games.  Not only was Bill a wonderful provider for his family, but he was also an incredible role model, a caring and supporting “Dad”, and was filled with kindness and love.

Bill was the loving husband of 55 years of Betty (Vidito) Farfaras.  He was the proud father of Troy Farfaras & his wife Lianne of Woburn, Tracey Farfaras of Woburn, Toni Farfaras & her wife Kerry of Woburn, and Tammy Souhail & her husband Mohamed of Tewksbury.  He was the brother of Anastasia Farfaras and Peter Farfaras.  He was the proud Papa of Nicholas Farfaras, Ashley Farfaras, Andrew Farfaras, Leila Cetrone & her husband Edward, Hanna Souhail, and William Farfaras.  He was the great grandfather of Madeline Cetrone.  He also leaves his beloved grand-dog Tobin William Farfaras.  He also had a wonderful connection with his late Uncle, Andrew Farfaras, as well as a close family friend, Julianne Patterson, who he considered to be a “third daughter”.

A celebration of Bill’s life will be held at the Trinitarian Congregational Church, www.triconchurch.org, 54 Walden Street, Concord, MA  on Friday, October 18th at 11 a.m.  Memorials in Bill’s name may be made to the Emerson Health Foundation for the Cancer Center, www.emersonhospital.org, 133 Old Road to Nine Acre Corner, Concord, MA 01742.  Arrangements under the assistance of the Edward V.
