Obituary of Jake Sorensen McCauley

Jake Sorensen McCauley sadly passed away on Tuesday July 30, 2024 at the age of 22. His passing was not in vain, as he was an organ donor and gave others the gift of life. Jake was born September 13th, 2001, in Winchester MA. He is the son of Robin Sorensen and Paul McCauley, brother of Callie McCauley and half-brother to Ashley McLean. Jake was a lifelong resident of Burlington.  He was a graduate of Burlington High School Class of 2020.  As a youth, he tried all the sports available, and was a naturally gifted athlete. In high school, he was an all-star on the varsity football team for four years as a wide receiver & defensive back, right fielder for the baseball team, and sprinter for the track team. His current passion was golf. He was a regular at the Patriot Golf Course in Bedford and the Billerica Country Club.

Jake had huge empathy for others. He had a mature wit and could read the room. In his career path, he wasn’t concerned about a salary, but rather doing a job that helped others. He was currently working at the Stonebridge Assisted Living in Burlington in their dining room. He loved the interaction with the residents and went out of his way to assist them and brighten their days. He was currently in pursuit of attaining his HVAC license and was just a few months away from graduating from the program.

Jake was all about his family. Simple things like a family meal, watching a game, or sitting around talking brought him the greatest joy. He enjoyed visiting his grandmother near daily in her nursing facility to bring her a cup of Dunkin coffee, as well as one for her roommate.  He was a loving son who would do anything for his parents, and a fun and supportive brother.  He was his Dad’s best friend and they did so much together. In recent years, Jake had been fighting a courageous battle with mental health issues. His parents and sister battled along with him, providing their love and support in an effort to help him fight the dreaded disorder he became afflicted with. Jake will always be remembered for the love, affection, joy, and kindness he showed family and friends.

Jake was the beloved son of Robin Sorensen and Paul McCauley of Burlington.  He was the brother of Callie McCauley of Burlington and half-brother of Ashley Mclean of Burlington. He was the grandson of Lorraine McCauley of Stoneham formerly of Burlington, the late Fred McCauley, Margery Sorensen-Cooper and C. Warren Sorensen.  He was the much-loved nephew of Janet Guerra of Dedham & her partner Rich Kulhawik, Joanne McCauley Goodman & Robert Goodman of Hanover, Jill & Bill Scott of Woburn, Paul Sorensen of Franconia, NH, Donna McGowan of Wilmington, Judy Sorensen & Louis Valente of Burlington, Arthur & Cyndi Sorensen of Chelmsford, Jeff Sorensen of Saugus, Shane and Kim McGowan of Bolton and the late Calvin Sorensen. Jake is also survived by many cousins and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Margaret Church in St. Veronica Parish, www.stveronicama.org, 111 Winn Street, Burlington, MA  on Wednesday, August 7 at 10am.  Services will conclude with an interment at Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington.
