Obituary of Norma Wynnell Jones

Norma Wynnell (Kelley-Major) Jones, a woman of faith and family values moved to her heavenly home on Monday night, July 8, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family.  She was 84 years old.  Norma was a Godly woman who loved the Lord and her family and set an example for her children and grandchildren that will lead them all their lives.  Norma was born in Corpus Cristi, Texas.  She was one of three children born to Cecil and Opal Kelley.  She grew up in Alburquerque, New Mexico and was a graduate of Southwestern High School.  She married her first husband, George Major, and they had two children, Boyd and Wendy.  Norma was the rock of her family.  She made a loving home for her family and raised her children with strong values and faith.  She loved her savior, the Lord Jesus, with all her heart and loved God’s world.  Though she was a humble and gentle woman, Norma was nonetheless a powerful prayer warrior, and only heaven knows what a wonderful and eternal impact all her many years of faithful prayer and service have had on her family, friends, and the world at large.  She was a faithful parishioner at First Family and Tramway churches in Albuquerque, NM and then at First Assembly of God Church in Lubbock, Texas.  She and her husband Derrell led the West of 50 Ministry at the church for many years.  In 2020, in order to be closer to her children she and Derrell moved to Billerica, MA.

Norma was a woman of strength and always placed her family first.  She was a loving and supportive wife and a sweet, kind and nurturing mother. She raised her children to be independent and to be thankful in their daily lives.    She was a talented seamstress and made her own, and many of her daughter’s, clothing when she was young.  She even sewed all her daughter’s bridesmaid dresses.  Family vacations often revolved around camping.  In her retirement years, camping evolved into RVing.  She would often meet up with her brothers and sisters-in-law for RV vacations.  Norma also worked full time as a bookkeeper for the Cornucopia Restaurant chain and then in the New Mexico District Office of the Assemblies of God.  She loved playing board games.  Her favorite was “Marbles” or sometimes called “Aggravation” which she and Derrell played weekly with friends.  Norma will be remembered as a woman who accepted her Savior, Jesus Christ, and lived a life of service and devotion to her family.

Norma was predeceased by her first husband, George Major who passed away in 1987, stepson, Ivan Jones, and her siblings, Doyle Kelley and his wife Nell, Wesley Kelley and his wife Wanda.

She is survived by her loving husband Derrell G. Jones of Billerica, her children, Boyd Major and his wife Jennifer of Mechanicsburg, PA, Wendy Picariello and her husband Rick of Billerica, MA, a sister-in-law Evelyn Owens of New Jersey, two grandchildren, Isaac and Isabella Picariello as well as many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her visiting hours on Thursday, July 11, from 5-7Pm at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St. Burlington. Her funeral service will be Friday, July 12 at 10 Am at Mount Hope Church 3 McGinnis Dr. Burlington, MA. Burial will follow in Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica. Contributions in her memory may be made to the First Assembly of God Church in Lubbock Texas at lubbockag.org.
