Obituary of Frederick Osborne Jr.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Frederick Osborne Jr., who passed away suddenly on March 29, surrounded by his family. Fred worked for the Water Department in the Town of Burlington and served as a military police officer in the Army during the Vietnam War era, he was 83 years old.

Fred was born in Malden, MA on August 17, 1940, to Doris and Frederick Osborne Sr. He was the eldest of 14 and very affectionately known as Freddy Boy, "the King", Dad or Grampy, and he treasured each of those titles. He was the father of Maryellen Osborne, of Billerica and Frederick W. Osborne of Burlington and grandfather to Ashley Elizabeth Osborne, of Burlington and Alyssa Grace Osborne, of Billerica and loving great-grandfather to Kayleigh and Layla.

Family was most important to Fred. From being a "big brutha" to 13 siblings to having a family of his own. He often reminisced fondly about how as a young boy he would ride his bicycle from Burlington to Everett to visit family despite the weather and distance. Growing up in Winnmere section of Burlington with 13 siblings, Fred could often be seen hanging out with many of his brothers or looking out for his sisters. As a young boy he took clarinet lessons, was a Boy Scout and played Little League baseball. He was also known to be a real sharp dresser; he took great pride in his clothes and was even sent home from school for his choice of clothing.  Fred also loved classy cars and often treated his siblings to rides to buy ice cream or simply enjoying leisurely rides.

Fred graduated from Burlington High School in 1959 and a few years after serving in the Army, he started his own family. When his children were very young, he would take them camping in New Hampshire and made sure never to miss any of his son’s little league games. Fred loved oldies music and cherished the memories made while attending a Fats Domino concert with his son. And when his daughter was pregnant with his first grandchild, he embraced his new role with profound tenderness and unwavering support.

He took such great joy in helping raise his 2 granddaughters, Ashley & Alyssa and later creating cherished memories with his great granddaughters Kayleigh & Layla. Despite his chronic back pain, Fred exemplified remarkable courage and resilience. Nothing could keep him down, he would still playfully transform into a pony for his granddaughters, or hoist them onto his shoulders as he tended to landscaping his property, which he took great pride in and later earned the title "the gardener".

Fred also cherished the town he called home and could be spotted at the local coffee shops chatting up anyone who was there, never at a loss for words, he loved Burlington. He took great pride in driving around town telling stories to his "girls" of his younger days and how things were back then.

Fred is predeceased by his parents Doris and Frederick Osborne Sr. of Burlington, and his sister Cheryl and brother Garry.  Loved by his remaining siblings, Leon of Reading, Brian of Burlington, Noreen of Maynard, Steven of Newbury, Diane of Wenham, Paul of Lowell, Dean of Townsend, Doris of Chelmsford, David of Townsend, Laurie of Kentucky, and Warren of New Hampshire.  Fred was also survived many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Fred will be deeply missed but his legacy will forever live on in our cherished memories. May he rest in peace knowing he was loved beyond measure.
