Obituary of Darlene Maffioli

Darlene Rita Maffioli (Bird), a retired accounts receivable clerk, passed away on May 22, 2023 at the age of 72. Darlene was born to her parents James “Bill” and Rita Bird in Medford. Growing up, Darlene’s family lived in Burlington on Sunset Drive. Darlene loved the community of the neighborhood and bought her own place on Sunset when she had a chance. She would call it home for her whole life. Darlene loved to spend her summers at White Horse Beach in Plymouth, MA. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1969 and entered the workforce working for a variety of companies in their finance departments.

Darlene’s pride and joy were her 3 grandchildren, Bobby, Holly, and Joe. She was extremely grateful that her daughter Jodi and her husband Bob settled on Sunset Drive, too, so she could see her grandkids every day. Darlene liked to travel with the whole family to Disney World as often as possible. Darlene also loved spending time with family during the holidays.

Darlene was the beloved mother to Jodi Nevola and her husband Bob of Burlington. She was the proud grandmother to Bobby, Holly and Joe Nevola of Burlington. Darlene was the caring sister to Maureen Vaudo of Burlington, and the late James William Bird and his wife Colleen of Woburn. She was the very dear friend and former wife to John J. Maffioli and his wife Chrissy of Stoneham. Darlene leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and many dear friends. She also leaves behind her loyal friend Scooby.

A visitation for Darlene will be held on Saturday, May 27, from 9 to 10:30 AM at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn Street, Burlington, MA 01803. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 27, at 11:00 AM at St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn Street, Burlington, MA 01803. Burial at Chestnut Hill to follow.
