Obituary of Antonino Brancato

Antonino Brancato an Italian immigrant that left his home in Sicily to come to the United States with his wife and 3 year old son, to give his family a better life passed away at his home on Wednesday afternoon, March 14, 2023. He was 91 years old. Antonino was born in Floridia, Italy. He was the son of Mario and Antonina Brancato. He grew up and was educated in Floridia. He worked alongside his father on his father’s lemon tree farm as a youth and young adult. He served his required service in the Italian Army. He then immigrated to the United States in 1961. He made his home in Dorchester, Woburn, and Stoneham before finally settling in Burlington in 1978. He spent most of his working career as a machine operator at Borden’s Confectionary for 34 years. He enjoyed his job and comradery shared with his coworkers. He was fortunate to retire at the age of 62.

Antonino filled his days doing the things he loved. He frequented Burlington’s Council on Aging where he participated in their activities, socials, and playing cards. He loved a good nickel and dime game of poker with his friends, and when he won a few dollars, it was like he won the lottery. He made his own wine. As with everything he did, he did it in a large scale making a keg of red wine and white wine, so he had enough to share with family and friends. He occasionally enjoyed duck hunting with his friends. He was an avid saltwater fisherman whether it was on a boat, beach, or on a bridge as long as he had a line in the water he was happy. He was a big fan of professional wrestling. He always had a German Sheppard as a pet. His favorite past time was working in his garden. Being the son of a farmer gave him a green thumb. He always had a garden that was much too big that he would spend endless hours in maintaining. He then would share his harvest with family, friends, and even supplied his son’s dinner with vegetables.

Antonino raised his sons with the values and traditions that he learned from his parents in Italy. Hard work, providing for family, taking pride in whatever you do, and always placing your family first. He had a wonderful and long life surrounded by his family and doing what he loved. He will forever be remembered and appreciated for the love and ideals he shared and instilled upon his family.

Antonino was the loving husband of 67 years of Antonietta Brancato. He was the proud father of Mario Brancato & his longtime companion Paula Dias of Westford and Salvatore Brancato & his wife Kim of Burlington. He was the brother of Frank Brancato of West Roxbury, Joseph Brancato of Wilmington, Tina Piscitello of Sandwich, and the late Sally Alicata. He was the loving grandfather of Anthony Brancato, Nicholas Brancato, Tina Mitchell, Robert Brancato, Michael Brancato, and Melissa Smith. He was also survived by 12 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington on Sunday March 19 from 4-6pm. Funeral services will be held at the Versailles Mausoleum in Woodlawn Cemetery, 302 Elm Street, Everett at noon on Monday, March 20, 2023.
