Obituary of Jean Elizabeth Bono

Jean Elizabeth Bono, a retired Loan Officer at Bank of Boston, passed away after an extended illness on Tuesday morning, March 2, 2021.  She was 80 years old.  Jean was born in Boston.  She was one of two daughters born to Eugene and Testa Palumbo.  She grew up in East Boston and was a graduate of East Boston High School.  She had resided in Winthrop for a time before settling in Burlington to raise her three children.  She worked as a Commercial Loan Officer for Bank of Boston for over 20 years.  She was hardworking, great with her customers, and always exceeded her goals.  For Jean, it was the perfect job.

After retiring, Jean moved to Sandwich due to her love of being near the water.  She volunteered at the Senior Center and Meals on Wheels for many years.  She was an active member of the “Red Hats” on Cape Cod.  She enjoyed setting up and hosting their dinners, trips, and activities.

Jean’s life revolved around her family. She was an amazing mother and gave her children everything they could have asked for and more.  She never missed a game or activity and was their biggest fan as her children always came first.  The biggest joy in her life was when she became a “Grammy”.  For in Jean’s eyes,  a grandmother’s role was to do anything with them and everything for them and smother her grandchildren with love and attention.  She loved playing games, reading, telling them stories, and simply making them laugh, smile, and be happy.  She cherished every moment spent with each one of them. She loved to say they were her “sunshine angels”.   Jean cherished being their “Grammy” and loved every moment she spent with them.  She constantly let them know how much she loved them with her endless notes and letters in the mail.  Jean’s home was filled with pictures and memories of what she cherished most, her family and most important her grandchildren.  Jean always had a positive outlook and saw the best in everyone.  She will be sadly missed by those she loved.

Jean was the loving mother of Georgette Mellen of NH, Ralph Bono & his wife Vanessa of PA, and Gene Bono & his wife Janeen of Burlington. She was the sister of the late Lucille Musto.  She was the proud grandmother of Gabrielle, and Tyler Bono, Enzo, Nero, Roco, Dante, Ronin Bono and Jason Mellen, and Jessica Graff.

Funeral services will be on Friday, March 5 starting with a visitation at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington (exit 34 off Rt. 128/95, Woburn side) from 9 to 10 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Malachy Church in St. Veronica Parish, 99 Bedford St., Burlington, www.stveronicama.org, at 10:30 a.m.  Services will conclude with a Graveside Committal Service at Sandwich Town Cemetery, Rt. 130, Sandwich at 1:30 p.m.  Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.  For directions, obituary, online guestbook, and video tribute see www.sullivanfuneralhome.net
