Obituary of Margaret Rose Steadman

Margaret Rose Steadman, the warm and welcoming face of the Lahey Clinic for 25 years prior to retiring in 2012, passed away at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center on Saturday, October 17, 2020.  She was 76 years old.  Peggy was born in Boston, the daughter of Dana Hart and Mary Jarvis.  She was raised and educated in Jamaica Plain.  Peggy went on to become a hairdresser and loved to surprise everyone by the different colors and styles she would wear. Peggy would meet her future husband James Steadman through her beloved long-time friends, Terry and Mike Dowd. They married in 1967 and had a wonderful 53 years of marriage.  Peggy and Jimmy lived in Billerica before moving to Woburn in 1972 where they would raise their three children.  Peggy worked at the information desk at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center for 25 years. With her friendly and outgoing personality, it was the perfect job for Peggy.   She had a way of making people feel comfortable when they approached her for help, directions, or to find a family or friend’s room number. She was more than willing to help and often times went the extra mile to be sure they knew where they were going.  She knew all the employees and many of the visitors who had loved ones in the hospital for an extended period.

Peggy’s life revolved around her husband, children, and especially her grandchildren. They were the center of her world.  She loved traveled with her husband Jimmy to Ireland, Netherlands, and Aruba numerous times.  She never missed her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events or cheerleading competitions.  She was their biggest fan and most vocal supporter.  She knew all their friends and cheered them on as well.  Her bubbly, friendly, welcoming, and loving personality will be traits that family and friends will always remember about her.  She held a special place in all their hearts that can never be replaced.

Peggy was the beloved wife of 53 years of James W. Steadman of Woburn.  She was the loving mother of Paul Steadman of Burlington, Jamie Steadman of Woburn and Melinda Steadman of Woburn.  She was the proud grandmother of Michael, Sean, Ashley, Brian Steadman & Luke DeRosa.  She was predeceased by her siblings; Charles Sullivan, Jackie Sullivan, Mary Maciejko and Robert Jarvis.  Peggy was also survived by many nieces, nephews & grand nieces and nephews.
