Obituary of Mary Larson

Mary (Ryan) Larson passed away at Care One in Lexington on Tuesday evening, January 21, 2020. Mary was 97 years old. Mary was born in Boston and raised and educated in Boston. She was the daughter of the late Cornelius and Mary Ryan. Mary and her husband Jim married and settled in Burlington in 1951. In addition to raising her two children, Mary worked as an Assistant Town Accountant for the Town of Burlington. She worked for the town for over 25 years. With her friendly and outgoing personality, it was the perfect job for Mary as she interacted daily with residents and friends from town. After her retirement in 1988, Mary went to work part-time in the Audio-Visual Department at the Northeastern University Satellite Office at Burlington High School. She worked there for over 10 years. During their retirement years Mary and Jim traveled extensively throughout the world. They visited Thailand, Africa, France, England, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Span and Morocco. She loved to experience new adventures when visiting these countries such as riding a camel meeting new people. Mary enjoyed gardening and ceramics. She was a devout Catholic and was a longtime member of St. Margaret Church but also frequented St. Malachy’s and St. Charles. Mary was very close to her grandchildren and she was a very important part of their lives growing up. Her grandsons returned the love by helping take care of Mary in her later years. Mary will be remembered for her friendly and outgoing personality as well as being an independent and positive woman. Mary was the beloved wife of the late Godfrey “Jim” Larson. Loving mother of Elizabeth Devine of Framingham and James Larson of Amesbury. Proud grandmother of Steven Devine of Woburn, James Mark Devine & Keith Devine of Burlington, Tiffany Purington of Amesbury and Christa Larson of Merrimac. Also survived by 2 great grandchildren. Sister of William Ryan of Quincy, Theresa Hinckley of Cochituate and the late Catherine Rynne. A visitation will be held at the Edward V Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128/95 Woburn side) on Saturday, Jan. 25 from 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at Noon. Burial to follow in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington.
