Obituary of Ann C Onthank

Ann C. Onthank, a woman lovingly involved with her family, church and community, passed away after a short illness on Monday morning, January 13, 2020. She was 85 years old. Ann was born in Medford, MA and was one of two daughters born to John and Pauline Crosby. She grew up in Arlington and graduated from Arlington High School. Ann continued her education earning her Associates Degree at Green Mountain College in Poultney, Vermont. She worked as an administrative assistant in Boston until she had her first child and became a devoted mom and community volunteer. Ann was an active volunteer at the Wildwood Elementary School library for many years and was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader. Ann also supported her children in their various school, sporting, and social activities. Later in life she worked at Filenes at the Burlington Mall as a sales associate for 15 years. Ann’s relationship with her husband Charles was loving and built on family values. They met at the First Baptist Church in Arlington and continued their faith while attending the United Church of Christ Congregational Church in Burlington for over 60 years. Ann enjoyed participating and contributing to her church as she served as a church Deacon, sang in the choir, worked many of the social and charitable events, managed the weekly church collections, folded newsletters, worked in the kitchen, and any other role the church needed assistance with over the years. She also volunteered as a driver for those who needed transportation to doctors’ appointments and to and from church on Sundays. She was part of the church’s outreach ministry where she visited those in the hospital and nursing care facilities as well as the homebound. Ann lived her faith in her actions, words, and deeds. Ann was a woman devoted to her family and a loving wife to her husband Charles for 61 years. They were always together at home and at church and complemented each other’s strengths and weaknesses. She made a warm and loving home for her family, giving her children a strong foundation based on faith, responsibility and love. Ann loved becoming a grandmother and then a great grandmother. All through her life and even into her 80’s, she enjoyed getting down on the floor and playing with the children. There were family trips to Lake Winnipesaukee, Disney, Cape Cod, and Maine. Her warmth, compassion, kindness, and unwavering love for her family and friends are truly what made her such a special and loved person. Ann was the beloved wife of the late Charles Franklin Onthank. She was the loving mother of Diane Mollison & her husband James of Merritt Island, FL and Dr. David Onthank & his wife Christine of Groton. She was the sister of Carol Nickell of Fort Morgan, CO. She was the proud grandmother of Matthew Mollison & his wife Cassandra, Andrew, Gregory, & Sarah Mollison, Daniel Connors and Kaitlin Onthank; and great grandmother of Shae Mollison. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to a Memorial Service which will be held at the United Church of Christ Congregational Church, Burlington on Saturday, February 22 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Ann’s name may be made to the United Church of Christ Congregational, 6 Lexington St., Burlington, MA 01803.
