Obituary of Anthony Joseph Cerullo

Anthony Joseph Cerullo passed away at the Care Dimensions Hospice House, following a brief illness, on Thursday morning, January 9, 2020. The beloved husband of the late Shirley E. (Bushey) he was 93 years old. Anthony was born, raised and educated in Somerville. He one was of seven children born to the late Alex and Eleanor Cerullo. In 1944 he enlisted in the United States Navy serving his country during World War II. He was the recipient of the Asiatic Pacific Medal, American Area Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Anthony was very proud of his service to his country. He was a member of the crew on the USS St. Paul (CA 73) when the ship was first placed into commission and throughout the years he kept in touch with his fellow “plank owners” as well as their families. After the War Tony worked in the Masonry Union for several years. He then went into business for himself “Cerullo & Sons” as a Tile Setter. Anthony serviced both residential and commercial properties. Anthony love being outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in New Hampshire and Maine. He loved the ocean and the beach. He looked forward to his annual visits to the Abaco Islands in the northern Bahamas. Anthony was a longtime member of the Winthrop Yacht Club where he had many friendships. Anthony was a people person and had an outgoing personality. He was the type of person that could meet a person for the first time and be friends within minutes. Anthony was a longtime member of the American Legion and VFW in Burlington and the Elks in Somerville. Anthony had a great love for his wife and his family. His two sons Tony and Charlie consider their dad to be their “best friend”. Anthony was the beloved husband of the late Shirley E. (Bushey). Loving father of Anthony Cerullo of Burlington, Susan Rodman of Burlington and Charles Cerullo & his wife Theresa of Tewksbury. Stepfather of Carl Fletcher of Plymouth, David Fletcher of Alaska, Robert Fletcher of NY and Catherine Calley of NY. Brother of Albert Cerullo of Pepperell and the late Rosalie Fiore, Mary Brancato, Domenic, Allasandro & Henry Cerullo. Anthony is also survived by 17 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128/95 Woburn side) on Sunday, Jan. 12 from 3-6 p.m. Funeral from the Funeral Home on Monday, Jan. 13 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Burial will be private.
