Obituary of Rosemarie A Lane

Rosemarie A. Lane, a woman who almost completed her bucket list, passed after an extended illness on Friday morning, December 6, 2019. She was 88 years old.  Rosemarie was born in Boston. She was the only daughter of William and Agnes Sullivan.  She was very proud of growing up in Charlestown, being a “Townie”, and living in a town where everyone knew your name and family.  After graduating from Saint John’s High School.  She worked as a administrative assistant for Family Finance Corp, which was a banking and loan company.  She married Walter Lane in August of 1965 and eventually settled in Burlington in 1971.  When she had her sons, her focus was providing her family with a loving home and caring for 2 active boys. She had a wonderful neighborhood filled with children for her boys to play with and neighbors who became great friends.  When her sons were young, summer vacations were spent at the shores of Hampton Beach. She had a tradition of standing at her door as her family and guests left her home and would blink her porch lights on and off until their cars were out of sight.   She was friendly and welcoming, kept her “boys” in line, and creating a warm and loving home.

When Rosemarie’s sons became adults, she spread her wings and began to travel.  She worked at Minuteman Home Care as a receptionist for many years and that helped to support her love of traveling.  By the time her traveling days were done, she had visited almost 40 countries throughout the world.  She toured Europe, spent a summer in Ireland, visited all over the Caribbean, and went on countless cruises.  Some destinations, she visited more than once. Rosemarie had a strong Catholic faith. It started as a child growing up in Saint Francis De Sales parish in Charlestown.  She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella.  When she moved to Burlington, she found a home at St. Malachy’s Church.  She was a fixture at the 4 p.m. Saturday mass.  She taught religious education, worked the church bazaars, and attended all the church socials.  She was also a Knights of Columbus wife who attended all the council events and socials.   Her faith kept her strong as she dealt with deepening health problems and the need to always want to watch over and care for her family.  She was truly a special woman, who brightened and expanded the lives of her family and friends.

Rosemarie was the beloved wife of Walter F.  Lane. She was the loving mother of Timothy F. Lane & his wife Laura and Patrick M. Lane & his wife Michelle all of Roslindale. She was the proud grandmother of Taylor and Ryan Lane. She was predeceased by her brothers; William, Henry, and Leroy Sullivan. She was Godmother to Karen Malone & her husband Michael and children Andrea & Kyle of Billerica.
