Obituary of Ana G Rezendes

Ana G. Rezendes, a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday morning, November 1, 2018.  She was 89 years old.  Ana was born and raised on the Island of Faial in the Azores, Portugal.  She was 18 years old when she married her late husband Manuel Rezendes in Faial.  She had her son, Manny, at the age of 19.  At age 30, Manuel, Ana, and Manny immigrated to the United States eventually settling in Woburn.  They came with limited funds and didn’t speak English, but were determined to make the most of the opportunities in their new country.  She never forgot her childhood home and often reminisced about how she would sit on the rocks and watch the sunset over the ocean.  Ana, assimilated well to the American way.  She learned the language and worked hard for everything.  She went to work at MKS and Control Devices and retired after 32 years as a quality control inspector.

Ana was a person who had a hard time sitting idle.  She was tiny in size, but a ball of energy.  Her garden in Woburn filled the yard.  She would spend endless hours tending to her crop and then give away a good portion to family friends, and neighbors.  She also had a knack with flowers.  She was an extremely talented seamstress. Ana sewed not only her own wedding dress, but also her sisters.  Her hobbies included crocheting, knitting, and oil painting.  She loved getting out of the house doing her shopping, banking, visiting with friends, going to church, and any other errand to stay active and social.  Ana was independent, never wanted to be any sort of burden, and appreciated even the littlest gesture anyone did for her.  She was so proud of all her family, their achievements, careers, life choices, and giving her the gifts of grandchildren and great grandchildren.  As a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, she gave her family a sense of who they were and where they came from, her strong work ethic, that it was better to give than to receive, and that a life lived well does revolve around monetary items, but one’s family and their wellbeing and love.

Ana was the beloved wife of the late Manuel P. Rezendes. She was the loving mother of Manuel “Manny” Rezendes & his wife Rosemarie of Burlington. She was the devoted sister of Isabel Korth of VT, Beatrice Lacerda of NM, the late Manuel Dias and Maria DaRosa. She was the proud grandmother of Denise Hanson & her husband Craig of Wilmington, Sandra Rezendes of Wilmington, and Joseph Rezendes & his wife Rachael of Burlington and great grandmother of Kylie and Leah Paolillo and John Hanson.

Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128/95, Woburn side) on Monday, Nov. 5 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral from the Sullivan Funeral Home on Tuesday, Nov. 6 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Services will conclude with a burial in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
