Obituary of Joseph Brown
Joseph A. Brown, a man who devoted his life to family, passed away at the Woburn Nursing Center on Wednesday morning, July 6, 2011. He was 85 years old.
Joe was born, raised and educated in Hartford, CT. He was one of six children born to the late George and Minnie Brown. Joe worked as a Welder for Lytron Co. in Woburn for over 40 years. Joe and his wife settled in Burlington in 1960 where they raised their family and became an active part of the community. Joe along with his wife Winifred were involved together with the Burlington Citations Drum and Bugle Corp. Joe was their Manager for many years. Joe’s life was all about his wife, children and grandchildren. Every evening when his children were young they would play a game together as a family when he returned home from work. In the summer it was an outside sport such as softball, dodge ball or baseball on the Burlington Town Common. In the winter months they would do indoor activities such as pool or ping pong. He enjoyed season camping and fishing. Joe enjoyed visits to Foxwoods where he would “people watch”. He was a devote parishioner of St. Margaret’s Church in Burlington and never missed the 4:30 Mass. He was fixture at all the Special Olympic events throughout the years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Burlington where he was a Past Grand Knight and a member of the 4th Degree. Joe was a loving husband, father, grandfather and “papa” who leaves a legacy of love and family.
Joe was the beloved husband of the late Winifred (McMullin) who passed away in 1987. He was the loving father of Lydia Brown of Burlington, Richard Brown of Burlington, Robert Brown & his wife Cherly of Everett, David Brown of TX, Norma of TX, and the late George Brown. He was the brother of the late Gerald Brown, Ethel Killen, Gertrude Slocum, Edith Cheverier, & Mitzi Levesque. Devoted Grandfather & Papa of Christopher & his wife Alicia, Daniel & his fiancé Kristen, David, James, Katie, Kelli, Cheyenne, Jason, Jillian, Robert Gay & Ryan. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Saturday July 9 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Friday 4-8 p.m. Interment in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington. In lieu of flowers memorials in Joe’s name may be made to Special Olympics MA, Attn: Burlington Pride, Yawkey Sports Training Center, 512 Forest St., Marlborough, MA 01752 or St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington, MA 01803.
