Suzanna Roos

Obituary of Suzanna Roos

Suzanna D. Roos, the sweetest wife, mother, aunt and person that ever lived, passed away peacefully Saturday night, February 6, 2010. She was 76 years old. Suzanna was born in Zaandam in the Netherlands. She was the daughter of the late Dirk Karel Boom and Maria Carolina Boom. She grew up in Amsterdam and was an elementary school teacher in Holland until she met Martin Roos. Martin swept her off her feet as he visited her family on behalf of her brother and Martin’s roommate, Ton Boom. Martin brought Suzanna back to the States and they were married on August 3, 1963. They shared a duplex in Woburn for 11 years with Martin’s twin brother, Jan, his wife, Guje, and their boys. The two families moved next door to each other in Burlington in 1974. The next door nephews loved Suzanna like a mother. Her love, caring, and sense of humor made her a joy to be with. When her sons were older, she worked at Sears Catalog in the Burlington Mall and remained there until retiring in 1999. Suzanna enjoyed walking, lunching and spending time on Marco Island, but most of all, loved being with her family. She enjoyed travel and returned home to the Netherlands numerous times to visit her sisters, nieces and nephews. She volunteered her time helping elderly people of Scandinavian origin for more than a decade at the Scandinavian Living Center in West Newton along with her best friend and sister in law, Guje. We will miss her dearly but will be ever thankful for the love, inspiration, and memories she provided us all. Suzanna was the beloved wife of Martin Roos of Burlington. She was the loving mother of Eric Roos & his wife Daniele of Grafton and Tim Roos & his wife Julie of Brentwood, NH. She loved her nieces and nephews, Peter Roos & his wife Janet, Michael Roos & his wife Sue, Tom Roos & his wife Kim, Marc Roos, Marjolein Arendse & her husband Huub, and Henk Doll & Anja Stokkers, Dirk Offringa & sisters Mol Witlox, and Tets Offringa as much as her own children. She was the sister of Puck Offringa and Frie Boom, sister in law of Kees Offringa all of the Netherlands, and sister of the late Anthonius “Ton” Boom. She was the proud grandmother of Jan, Camille, Julian, Jacob, and Bethany and just as proud as a grandmother of Michael, Jackson, and Lena Roos, and Jasper Valentijn Arendse. A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, February 13 at the Scandinavian Living Center, 206 Waltham Street, West Newton, MA 02465. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Suzanna’s name may be made to the Scandinavian Living Center, 206 Waltham St., W. Newton, MA 02465 or www.slcenter.org.
