Obituary of Phyllis Wist

Phyllis G. Wist, a woman who cherished her husband, friends, and faith passed away after a long illness at the Life Care Center in Billerica on Friday night, January 22, 2010. She was 85 years old. Phyllis was born in Lynn the only child of the late Elliot and Rachel Griffin. She made Lynn her home until her marriage in 1962. She was a graduate Fisher College. She had retired from GTE in Woburn, where she had worked as an executive secretary. Phyllis was an avid skier and a member of a ski club. While on a Ski Club trip she met her future husband Nils. They were married in 1962. They shared many interest including skiing, gardening, golf, faith, and travel. Over their years of marriage they had visited almost every state, much of Europe and some of the Caribbean. They had a wonderful bond and shared over 43 years together. Phyllis enjoyed water aerobic and was a long time member and Past President of the Burlington Garden Club. She was a very active member of the First Parish Church in Billerica. She participated in many activities and events as well starting the “Cookie Walk” fundraiser. Phyllis made a point to keep in touch with new and old friends. As an example, until her illness, she routinely had lunch with her friends from Fisher College. Phyllis also had a strong connection with the Kunicki and Hawes families. She shared all the holidays, special events, outings, and visits with them. After Nils passed away, the Kunicki and Hawes families were there to support and assist Phyllis. Phyllis was the wife of Nils S. Wist, Jr for 43 years. She was the devoted daughter of the late Elliot and Rachel Griffin. She was a dear close friend of Elaine & Richard Kunicki of Billerica and their son Richard and Richard & Cindy Hawes of Billerica and their son Eric. She also leaves many good friends. Funeral services will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn Street, BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Saturday, January 30 at noon.
