Obituary of Guy DeFilippo

Guy J. DeFilippo passed away at his home on Tuesday evening, May 9, 2006. A resident of Burlington for 46 years, he was 82 years old. Mr. DeFilippo was born, raised and educated in Winchester. He was the son of Italian Immigrants the late Alfonzo and Mary DeFilippo. Mr. DeFilippo was a veteran of World War II serving his country in the United States Army from 1943-1946. He was the recipient of the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Campaign Ribbon with Bronze Service, Arrowhead, American Theater Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with One Bronze Service Star. Mr. DeFilippo and his wife lived in Winchester when they were first married. They eventually settled in Burlington in 1960 where they raised their family. Mr. DeFilippo was employed by the Town of Burlington as an Assistant Superintendent of Maintenance working at the Department of Public Works. He and his son Gerry had a part-time business of repairing lawnmowers. He was always on the hunt for great bargain. Mr. DeFilippo and his family summered for over 40 years in Hampton Beach, New Hampshire. As a family they had many special times there. He was a Town Meeting Member in Burlington for over 25 years. He was known to the other Town Meeting Members as the man who would, “move the question”. Mr. DeFilippo was a “people person” who enjoyed spending time chatting with his many friends and relatives. He was a volunteer for many years for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, which is a charity organization that helps people in need. Mr. DeFilippo is the beloved husband of the late Josephine C. (Carbone). He is the loving father of Gerald DeFilippo & his wife Arlene of Burlington, Mary & her husband Robert Roche of Exeter, NH, Roselyn & her husband Daniel Harrington of Burlington, Karen & her husband Wayne Morgan of Burlington, and the late Stephen DeFilippo and Guaetono “Guy” DeFilippo, Jr. He is the brother of Rosalie Gregory of Texas, Anna Foley of CA, Theresa Pierce of Winchester, Mary Watkins of Reading, Sister Geraldine DeFilippo of Winchester, Charles DeFilippo of Lowell, Carl DeFilippo of Winchester, and the late Josephine Rivers. Grandfather of Jennifer & Gerald DeFilippo, Jr., Robert, Laura, Stephen, Brian & Kevin Roche, Katrina & Daniel Harrington, Victoria, Joseph, & Isabella Morgan. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Saturday, May 13 at 9:00 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Friday 2-4 p.m. & 7-9 p.m. Interment in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
