Obituary of Emilia Casanova

Emilia O. Casanova, a resident of Burlington for 46 years, passed away after at Wilmington Health Care on Saturday morning, September 6, 2008. She was 86 years old. Emilia was born in Portugal. Her family immigrated to the United States when she was young. Like many Portuguese immigrants, they first settled in Cambridge. She and her late husband, Manuel, eventually settled in Burlington in 1962. Emilia was a strong and independent woman. She worked as a technician for Hood Rubber in Watertown and M/A-COM in Burlington. She kept many of her Portuguese traditions. She enjoyed flower, vegetable, and herb gardening, a talent she learned from her family while in Portugal. She enjoyed to cook and often served many traditional Portuguese meals. She took pride in maintaining and managing her home. Emilia was the beloved wife of the late Manuel Casanova. She was the loving mother of Ronald Casanova of Burlington. She was the sister of Anna Lamerias of Atlanta, GA, formerly of Burlington, the late Jack and Dominic Barbosa. Also survived by 2 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off rt. 128, Woburn side) on Wednesday, September 10 at 11 a.m. Visiting hours Tuesday from 5-8 p.m.
