Obituary of Arthur Thorstensen
Arthur G. Thorstensen, a 75 year resident of Burlington, passed away at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford on Monday, October 15, 2007. The husband of the late Ferne M. (Gould), he was 85 years old.
Arthur was born in Boston. He was the son of the late Oscar and Martha Thorstensen. His family settled in Burlington when he was 10 years old. He was captain of the Burlington High Basketball team and also played football. He married his high School sweat heart in Key West Florida while he was serving in the Navy during WW II. He served in the Navy from Sept. of 1942 to December 1945. He was an airman on the B-24 bombers. At the end of the war he was serving on the USS Intrepid. He was very proud of his military service.
Arthur owned and operated a commercial and residential trucking and excavation company called, Thorstensen and Parker, Inc. in Burlington from 1958 to 1989. At one point, the he had a fleet of 5 ten-wheel dump truck sand several excavators. When he was not working, he enjoyed vacationing in the Florida Keys.
Arthur was the beloved husband of the late Ferne M. (Gould). He was the devoted father of Lee T. & his wife Lori of Gloucester, Neal G. & his wife Robyn of Burlington, Kit A. of Loudon, NH, and Kim E. Thorstensen of Burlington. He was the brother of Roy of Burlington and Thelma Mikoluk of Woburn. Also survived by 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Grandfather of the late Tami Thorstensen. Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Thursday, October 18 from 9 a.m. to Noon. Followed by Graveside services at Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Bedford St., Burlington, at 12:30 p.m. Memorials in Arthur’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
